Will you choose the red pill?

This topic suggestion, Do you take the red pill, or the blue pill?, is from The Daily Post as part of the Post-a-day writing challenge.

“You take the blue pill – the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill – you stay in Wonderland and I show you how deep the rabbit-hole goes.” -Morpheus (from the film The Matrix)

One of my favourite bands, Sounds Like Chicken, has a song based on this concept. Entitled “there is no spoon” the chorus has “You gotta take a red pill” over the line “I choose to live this way.”

For me, that is the whole basis of this choice. Taking the blue pill keeps you in your comfy life, not knowing what’s happening out in the world, not being challenged, not going anywhere.

However, if you take the red pill, you are taking control of your life. You choose to live this way – whether that’s a life following Christ’s example, or a life of political activism, or a life of constantly searching and questioning – when you choose to live a life this way, you choose to take that red pill, and through that you find meaning for your life.

So which pill will you take?
